PJ Hegarty has promoted Barry Casey to its Main Board, appointing him Construction Director for the Southern Region. Casey has served as Regional Director since 2018, a position he held before his new title. The move reflects his more than three decades of leadership within the firm, where he has guided the delivery of numerous flagship projects.
Long-standing role in major projects
Casey joined PJ Hegarty in 1993 and has been involved in some of the company’s best-known developments. His portfolio includes work on the Boston Scientific campus, MSD facilities, Penrose Dock, Nano Nagle Place, and the Elysian development in Cork city. He also mentioned the Clarion Hotel & Lapps Quay Development in his comments.
His experience spans the commercial, pharmaceutical, life sciences, and residential sectors. The company notes that Casey has been instrumental in the success of the Southern Region, where he has built a reputation for technical expertise and integrity.
With more than 500 employees, PJ Hegarty operates across Ireland and the UK. The group delivers projects for long-standing clients in high-tech, industrial, infrastructure, aviation, fit-out, and specialist sectors. The annual turnover exceeds €500m.
Current developments and company focus
Current projects include the new Citibank headquarters in Dublin Docklands and a significant programme of works at Dublin and Cork Airports. The firm is also involved in major data centre and pharmaceutical developments for confidential multinational clients. In Cork, PJ Hegarty is working on Ireland’s tallest residential building, the 25-storey Railyard development.

Having celebrated its centenary in 2025, the company maintains a strong focus on safety, sustainability, responsible procurement, diversity, and inclusion. Casey said he looks forward to supporting teams across the region.
